DAS B.V. has developed an application to close the esophagus (also called weasand) from cattle and sheep. This process is called rodding. DAS B.V. does manufacture biological degradable units to close off the esophagus. This is an very important step in the slaughtering process because it does avoid cross contamination. By closing the esophagus, there will be less rejected carcasses. This handling does improve hygiene and shelf life from the final product. So a better yield!
The units are placed into the esophagus by a stainless steel tool operated by compressed air. These tools are made by DAS as well. Our rodding system can realize a significant higher speed then the conventional plastic clips. So an higher speed slaughtering lines, there will be a labor reduction as well. Our weasand closing/rodding system is approved for Kosher as well as Halal procedures. Because the closing units are biodegradable, the by-product processing on-wards will not be blocked by plastics. There is too much plastic in our environment already, no need to add more!
Sheep / lamb slaughtering
DAS B.V. has developed new system for depelting the animals (taking the skin off). The concept is modular designed hence capacities can be scaled up relative easy. Depelting is a very critical stage in the slaugthering proces because it’s labor intensive and with a high risk of cross contamination. With the current standard/classic machines there is even a risk for damaging the tissue/meat.
DAS B.V. has considered these issues into a new solution for depelting. By a thorough study from the anatomics and using uncommon technologies. The result is groundbreaking! By the level of mechanization we have realized a significant reduction in labor. The way the pelt is removed does protect the carcass for possible damage and does secure the best possible hygiene. Less cross contamination and less people at the line. Result is a very high number of animals per person to be slaughtered and with and outstanding quality.
DAS B.V. has developed a system for misting the carcasses with lactic acid followed by a wash with water. Our systems are made out of stainless steel and the internal nozzles are well designed to secure a complete covering from the carcass by lactic acid. DAS B.V. can supply our nearby clients with a ready to use lactic acid solution which is certified for use in the food industry.
Clients abroad can buy lactic acid concentrate and DAS B.V. has a special dosing/mixing system for these clients. Lactic acid is allowed to treat cattle based on EU regulations. It’s well known that lactic acid has a strong effect to reduce the bacterial counts. We have seen log 2-3 reduction in bacterial counts. The method has a direct effect on reducing eventual contamination hence securing the food safety and increasing the product shelf life. The eventual risks on recalls will be reduced. Food safety has the highest priority; we should not compromise on that!
